Spring Hope -
Dennis Bailey, age 77, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday April 12, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and pastor at his bedside.
Dennis was born in Wilson County to Mavis Cora Bailey and Jack Bailey on November 1, 1946. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Jackie, Donald, Wayne, and Gerald Bailey; son-in-law, Warren Basco Lewis III; and nephew, Jason Petway.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Brenda Glover Bailey of Spring Hope; sons, Dennis Wayne Bailey and wife, Sandra of Rocky Mount, Christopher Bailey and fiance, Vanessa Moore of Spring Hope; and daughter, Shannon Lewis of Middlesex; five awesome granddaughters, Lauren Howell and husband, Andrew of Middlesex, Emily Chapman and husband, Andrew of Lucama, Ashley Lewis of Middlesex, McKenna and Lindsey Bailey of Bailey, and great grandbaby Howell due October, 2024. He is also survived by a brother, Danny Ray Bailey of Battleboro; sister, Ann Petway and husband, Randall of Wilson; sisters-in-law, Joyce Bailey of Whitakers, Ellen Bailey, and Phyllis Glover of Rocky Mount, and Sandra Bailey of Nashville, along with multiple nieces, nephews, family friends and other extended relatives.
Dennis served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969. He worked at Inco in Rocky Mount as a welder. He also worked in the bridge department for CSX Railroad as a welder, then later as a bridge inspector. His last employer was NC Department of Transportation working in the bridge maintenance department where he retired in 2005.
Dennis loved music and was a fantastic drummer. He was in several bands over the years including the MacArthur Park Band in the mid and late 70’s in Rocky Mount. He was an avid James Brown fan. He loved to fish and had the special touch of being the only one to catch them when others couldn’t get a bite. Dennis was very outgoing and had many friends, too numerous to mention in fear of leaving someone out. He loved you all.
Thank you to the physicians and nurses who cared for Dennis during his time at Duke University Hospital. A special thank you to his nurse, Jackson Chirayil, RN from the VA Medical Center in Durham for his excellent care and friendship.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 17th, at NorthSide Church,1660 Beaver Pond Dr Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Burial will follow at Spring Hope Memorial Gardens on Webbs Mill Road, Spring Hope, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 12:30PM and other times at the home.
