Richard Vaughn Goines, age 69, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019 in hospice at home after a 15-month illness.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Kirkland Waters and Anne Vaughn Goines of Hyattsville, MD, and brother, Kenneth Goines of Germantown, MD.
Rick is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Linda Tharrington Goines, of Tarboro, NC; his daughter Candace G. & Robert N. Hartsell; his son, Richard K. Goines, all of Pompano Beach, FL; step-children: L. Thomas & Chassi Tharrington, of Christiansted, St. Croix, USVI; Edwin & Kathleen Fenner, of Raleigh, NC; brother Charles & Beverly Goines of Lanham, MD; four granddaughters, two great-grandchildren, two nieces, three great-nephews; cousin Jo Ann Vaughn Hawkins of Newbury Park, CA.
Rick Goines was a recipient of the North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine, conferred by Governor Jim Martin, the highest recognition given to a citizen in our state.
Rick devoted 30 years to radio station ownership and broadcast sales, plus nearly 8 years of sales with WITN TV 7. When he lost his hearing and became disabled, he reinvented himself as a writer, serving The Daily Southerner, Tar River Progress, Greenville Times, Tarboro Weekly, Rocky Mount Telegram, North Carolina's Eastern Living Magazine, and Wildlife in North Carolina magazine, as well as other NC publications.
There will be a Service of Witness to the Resurrection of the Life of Rick Goines on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, 303 East Saint James Street, Tarboro, NC. Visitation and a reception will follow in the Burns Fellowship Hall.
