IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Albert "Al"
Gardner
July 30, 1953 – February 15, 2025
Rocky Mount -
Albert "Al" Gardner, age 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at his home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was born in Nash County on July 30, 1953, to Albert Lee Gardner and Annie Overby Gardner, both of whom preceded him in death.
Al is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Brenda Parker Gardner. Al considered his greatest accomplishment his children, Michael Gardner (Courtney) of Wendell and David Gardner (Ashley) of Rocky Mount; and his beloved bonus daughter, Delight Strickland (Jason) of Elm City. He also leaves special memories for his siblings who he deeply loved, John Gardner (Susan) and Angie Ammons (Gary), all of Rocky Mount, and Marcia Gardner of Nashville. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law who loved him as a brother, Peggy Staton (James) of Sharpsburg, Janice Manning of Nashville, Leigh Anne Wills (Jay) of South Carolina along with several cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members who adored their Uncle Al.
Al, lovingly known as "Pop-Pop", was especially proud of and adored his grandchildren, Taylor Gardner, Parker Gardner, Micah Gardner, and Elise Strickland, who brought him immense joy. His love for them was boundless, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
A man of unwavering faith and integrity, Al was a dedicated Christian who deeply loved his church, Ridgecrest Worship Center. He was always willing to help in any way he could, serving faithfully for over 40 years on the Elder Board and as Head Usher. His commitment to his church family was steadfast, and he was a pillar of strength and kindness within the congregation.
Beyond his faith, Al was also a hardworking and respected businessman. As the owner of Gardner's Garage for over 50 years, he built a reputation as a man of his word. His loyal customers weren't just patrons—they were lifelong friends, and many became like family. His honesty, dedication, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered, both in business and in life.
A visitation will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Ridgecrest Church, 1120 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. The memorial service will follow at 11am.
