IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Altermise "Alta"
Langley Dozier
October 11, 1932 – October 3, 2022
Rocky Mount -
Altermise "Alta" Langley Dozier passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022. Alta, as the first born to parents, Paul A. and Pattie J. Langley, arrived on October 11, 1932 and lived the remainder of her life in the West Mount community that she loved so dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Wayon "Clem" Langley and Hugh Wallace.
Alta is survived by her husband of 60 years, Daxie Dozier; brothers, Donnie Langley and Marshall Langley; sister, Luanne Jones; five nieces and five nephews as well as several grand nieces and nephews.
Alta, gifted by God in music and after accepting Jesus Christ at an early age, shared this gift with others, especially in Morton Presbyterian Church where she, as a member, taught Sunday School beginning with children, later to teenagers and then adults. She also served as an elder as well as choir director, soloist and pianist.
Alta's love of music led her to sing with other chorus groups in the Rocky Mount area and she especially looked forward to The Rocky Mount Christmas Chorus where as a charter member, sang for 49 consecutive years. She was also a member of The Tar River Chorus where she sang for many years and a highlight in her music life was singing with the First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount in the presentation of Handel's Messiah.
Though she was a long time member of Morton Presbyterian Church, in her later years, she and her husband, Daxie, attended Englewood Presbyterian Church where she served as a choir member.
Additionally, Alta's love for animals was well known and she always had cats and dogs to love and care for and they loved her in return.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all doctors, nurses, and staff of Nash General of Rocky Mount Rehab and Amedisys Hospice who cared for her in her final struggle of life and a special thanks to Sandra Peele and Nicki Gupton as well as friends and neighbors who extended their hands and hearts to help.
A service to celebrate Alta's life and honor Jesus Christ will be Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 12:00PM at Englewood Presbyterian Church, 100 S Englewood Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with the Rev. Dr. Rob Westlund officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to Englewood Presbyterian Church, 100 S. Englewood Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or to the charity of your choice.
