Obituary

Nashville -

Amy L. Bass, age 69, beloved daughter, sister, "Aunt Mimi", friend and teacher, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025. She was born in Nash County on July 27, 1955 to Phyllis Williams Bass and Robert L. "R.L." Bass. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved canine companion, Ziggy.

Amy was a dedicated third grade teacher. She was well-organized and it showed in her daily activities. She ate, exercised, and honored her schoolwork. During her career, she always stood up for disadvantaged children. Later in life, Multiple Sclerosis made it difficult for her to work full time and she fulfilled her teaching heart with tutoring. Amy still "worked" for pies, flower arrangements or any other payment the child's parents offered for her tutoring services.

Though she was in a wheelchair due to MS, Amy was a longtime volunteer at the former Nash General Day Hospital. She loved to help the patients find their way on surgery day. Her dear friend, Elaine Weisner, kept her in physical therapy time and time again to keep her moving forward. Her home was always open to family and friends and later, the many caregivers. She was helped by everyone in this community of friends and relatives. Multiple Sclerosis was a condition that never defined Amy. She was beautiful to look at but more than attracting people to her, she inspired others by dressing and looking her best. Even though getting dressed took much of her day, Amy always looked her very best and those days when weather or infirmity kept her in, she felt like she had missed something.

She leaves a lifetime of memories for her sister, Lori Nash (Terry) of Nashville; nieces, Jessica Lauren Nash of Austin, TX, Katharine Amelia Nash Dolbee (Ben) of Wilmington, Audrey MaGuire Nash of Apex and Madison Brooks Nash of Raleigh; great-nephew, Malakai; her fur-baby, Bentley and his cousin, Max.

Amy was a wonderful sister and always inspired me, especially during those earlier years after our mother passed away. She taught me how to "take" a compliment and said that I was "pretty when I woke up" in the morning. Oh, and to check my heels when leaving a restroom! Amy will never be forgotten. I will always love and miss her. ~Lori

Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or the Appalachia Service Project (ASP), 4523 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, TN, 37601.

Even with the progression of MS, she always had the best of care and kept a positive outlook due to her uplifting caregivers. Special honor and love goes out to her long-time caregiver and "roommate", Beckie Allen.

Funeral services for Amy will be private. Please honor her here with any memories of Amy that you may have.

One that comes to mind is when her long time neurologists, Dr. William Deans, repeatedly hospitalized Amy for beta seron IV therapy. He told her that he had given her enough medicine to kill a horse and he asked how did that make her feel? Without hesitation Amy answered, "It makes me glad I'm not a horse!!" Her quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
