Ava "Carol" Sullivan, age 74, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Sanford Health & Rehabilitation in Sanford, North Carolina. She was born in Nash County on February 4, 1949 to James and Ava Taylor Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Wilkins Sullivan; and brothers, James Exum "Jimmy" Smith, III and Robert Thomas Smith.

Carol grew up in Sharpsburg where she won the title of Miss Sharpsburg in 1965. She was a member of Sharpsburg Baptist Church where she was baptized and married. She later became a member of Oakdale Baptist Church. She was a sweet soul and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Sutton (Steve) of Greenville and Martha Bartell (Michael) of Fairfield; grandchildren, Shane Sutton, Preston Bartell, Brett Sutton and Cassie Bartell; sister-in-law, Kathy Sullivan Hardy of Nashville and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 2:00PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
