Betty Paris Rackley, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. She was born on September 1, 1935 in Nash County to Ambrose and Beulah Paris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack S. Rackley and nine siblings.
Betty worked in the accounting industry for most of her life. In her early career as a payroll clerk, she worked at Wheeler Equipment Company. She then worked at Standard Electric and finally, Stoney Creek Knitting Mill where she did payroll for over 350 employees. She retired at age sixty-two after dedicating more than thirty years to the industry.
After becoming her mother’s main caregiver upon retirement, Betty ultimately returned to the workforce as a daycare employee at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed working with the children in the “Mother’s Morning Out” program. The children and their parents loved her dearly. After her health declined, she retired for the second time at the age eighty-six. Betty made many connections throughout both of her careers that blossomed into lifelong friendships and connections.
Betty leaves a lifetime of treasured memories for her daughter, Jacqueline Moore and husband, James of Rocky Mount; son, Jeff Rackley and wife, Ellen of Atlanta, Georgia and her only grandchild, Nicholas Jenkins and wife, Nicole of Goldsboro.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
