Betty Jane "Bet" Ramsey Wood, age 79, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice after suffering a stroke. She was born on April 4, 1942 to James Mayo and Annie Todd Ramsey.
She was a graduate of Benvenue High School and was employed by Rocky Mount Laundry for over 35 years. She enjoyed her customers, especially the ones from Sharpsburg. She was a member of the former Mill Street Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Betty Jane was the cornerstone of the Rocky Mount Mill Village and was referred to by her neighbors as "The Queen." She was the village historian, telling stories about people and events from the "Mill Hill", some dating back to the late 1940's.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, J. Curtis Ramsey and Charles M. Ramsey, Sr.; sister, Virginia "Deanie"R. Daniel; nephew, Charles M. "Chuck" Ramsey, Jr. and her husband, CB Wood.
She leaves behind her daughter, Jane Todd Wood Braddy and her husband, Chris; the loves of her life, her two grandsons, Christopher Todd Braddy and Jacob Alan Braddy, all of Hobgood; sister-in-law, Marjorie G. Ramsey; six nieces and nephews, Anne R. Sebald, Debbie R. Bradshaw, Bill Daniel, Angie Daniel, Gary Daniel, and Anita D. Cooke; eleven great-nieces and nephews; four great-great-nieces and nephews; and four special cousins, Vickie Fuller, Wendy Thrift, Lynn Whitman, and Danny Anderson.
Betty Jane will go home one last time as there will be a gathering to celebrate her life at the Powerhouse at the Rocky Mount Mills, 1151 Falls Road, Rocky Mount on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and other times at the home of Betty Jane. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Pineview Cemetery, 761 E Raleigh Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC 27801.
While flowers are appreciated, memorial donations may also be made to Vidant Inpatient Hospice House, 920 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
