Billy Ray Keel, age 74, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, North Carolina. He was born on December 12, 1947 in Edgecombe County where he resided in the Tarboro/Edgecombe area for most of his life. His mother, Louise Harrell and special grandmother, Allie Keel raised him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of thirty-six years, Shirley Wilder Keel; daughters, Lisa Keel Bottoms (Jeff) and Tammie Perry Poland (Glenn); sisters, Mary Frances Peele (Robbie) and Linda Harrell Bradley; brother, Danny Boy Harrell; grandchildren, Ashley Pittman (Roger), Robbie "Dizzy" Parker (Alyssa), Sierra Griffin, Michael Light, Macie Griffin, Zakk Poland and great-grandchildren, Mikey Light, who was his heart, Maddex, Madisyn, Zoey, Easton, and Kellen; along with many friends and other extended relatives.

Billy was a proud Vietnam veteran, having served honorably in the US Army. After his service, he worked hard as an electrician. When he wasn't working, Billy could be found working hard building in his shop such as utility trailers and much more. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as playing cards, NASCAR racing, dancing, especially the twist, camping, and getting antique Ford cars. His ultimate pleasure came from spoiling his special grandsons. Billy was a hardworking man who loved his family and will be dearly missed.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, but especially to Vickie and Dr. Silver and staff for the care received in the last few days.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Edgecombe Memorial Park, Tarboro. The family will greet friends immediately following the service and other times at the home.
