Obituary

Elm City -

Alton Cecil Moss, Jr., fondly known as "Butch" to family and friends, passed away October 30, 2023 at age 61. He was born in Nash County on December 19, 1961. He was preceded in death by his father, Alton Cecil Moss; mother, Jeanette Hayes Mosley; and sister, Lou Lynne Griffin.

Butch Moss was more than a cosmetology professional; he was a living legend who touched countless lives with his bold, hilarious, and loving personality. His ability to turn anyone's day around and bring a smile to their face was a gift that made him unforgettable.

Butch was not just a master of his craft; he was the best in the business. His passion for cosmetology was matched only by his love for his customers, his family, and his beloved pets. He poured his heart into every color, every style, and every conversation. Behind the scissors and the hairdryer, Butch was a friend, a confidant, and a beacon of light. He made every visit to the salon an unforgettable experience, leaving clients not only looking fabulous but feeling loved and valued. Butch's humor and warmth transformed every appointment into more than just a haircut; it was a cherished connection.

Known as a never tiring advocate, rescuer, and lover of animals, Butch felt a special connection to many of God's creatures. He provided a loving home for rescued animals and fed and cared for many feral cats in his area. His love and care for others was endless, especially when it came to his family. Becoming neighbors with Kim was a milestone that brought brother and sister closer together in more ways than one. Their relationship grew stronger and deeper as they supported each other, looked out for one another and enjoyed sharing and making new memories together. There was no greater joy than goofing off and spending time with Kim's grandsons, Conner, Ayden, Lawson, and Alton; Butch deeply loved each of them and his life was truly enriched by their love. To all who knew him, Butch Moss was a unique soul, and his memory will forever live on in our hearts.

Butch is survived by his sister, Kimberly Jernigan (Chris); nephews, Daniel Jernigan (Dana) of Red Oak, Brian Jernigan (Danyelle) of Zebulon, and Cameron Jernigan of Raleigh ;nieces, Christian Griffin, Hanna Smith, and Sara Czechowski (Scottie), all of Florida; his beloved pups who were his loving and constant companions, Billy, Brenda, Mr. Humphries, and Mary; along with several great-nieces and nephews, forty years of wonderful clients, many cherished friends, and other extended relatives.
