Charlie Armstrong, Jr, age 90, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2026 and met his Lord and Savior. He was born in Nash County, North Carolina on November 17, 1935, son of Charlie L. Armstrong and Lola Winfree Armstrong. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy A. Fisher and Rachel Robinson and grandson, Patrick Armstrong.
Charlie was a devoted Christian and charter member of Salem Community Baptist Church where he served as trustee, deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He loved his church family. He was also a Salem Volunteer Fireman for many years. He loved fishing and golfing. He played golf until he was eighty-eight years old with his special golfing buddies. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charlie is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Mavis King Armstrong; daughter, Melissa Boyd; son, Steve Armstrong (fiancée, Shannon Hardy) all of Salem Community; granddaughters, Carly and McKenzie Boyd, both of Greenville; sisters, Patricia Luper (Roger) of Salem Community and Charlene Price of Florence, SC; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will host a memorial service at 2:00pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Salem Community Baptist Church, 4502 Swift Creek School Rd, Whitakers, NC 27891 with Pastor Caleb Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Charlie’s memory to Salem Community Baptist Church, 4502 Swift Creek School Rd, Whitakers, NC 27891.
