Rocky Mount –

Connie Brake Hamlett, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born in Rocky Mount, NC on December 9,1944, she was the daughter of Richard and Dorothy Brake. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard "J.R." Hamlett; granddaughter, Lily Claire Langley and brothers, Tommy Brake and Dickie Brake.

She was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was married to the love of her life, Jimmy, for fifty-five beautiful years, and together they built a legacy around faith and family. Connie and her family attended Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, Oakdale Baptist, West Edgecombe Baptist and Rise Church of Rocky Mount. She worked with her son, Rick Hamlett and daughter, Christian Langley at Etheridge, Hamlett & Murray Law firm for many years. When she could no longer work, it was a privilege and honor for her daughter, Christian and granddaughter, Savannah to become her full-time caregivers, spending dedicated, precious times during the week with her for four years. Her other children, grandchildren and siblings cared for her during nights and weekends. She also had wonderful caregivers from Lighten the Load Eldercare and Lisa George and Gwen Watson. Connie was a fighter and overcomer. God sustained her with his faithful hand through many set-backs. Her faith was strengthened through the many trials she faced.

Connie found pure joy in supporting her children and grandchildren, never missing an event or opportunity to cheer them on. Her presence was a constant reminder of her love and she would be there no matter what circumstances. She dedicated herself to her family and they would gather every Sunday at her house. She was the glue that always connected them and for that reason, having God as the center and her strength binding them, the family is as close as one can be. From vacationing together every year as a family at the beach, to holding movie nights with hot chocolate and her delicious fudge, she was truly the best mama, grandma, nanny, and great grandma there was! She was a strong, kind, and selfless woman who touched countless lives. She gave her all to her family. Connie's memory will forever be cherished by those who were blessed to know her. The time God gave her family during these last years was a true gift and they will be forever grateful to the Lord for allowing them to honor her in such a way. Her love and God's purpose for her will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, as her impact will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her children, Dawn Turner (Bruce) of Nashville, Rick Hamlett of Rocky Mount, Ashlie Waters (Shane) of Jacksonville, Florida, Brandie Perry (Glenn) of Battleboro, Christian Langley (Travis) of Rocky Mount; daughter-in-law, Amy Hamlett of Rocky Mount; siblings, Sandra Gardner (Billy), Debra Calhoun (Wayne), all of Rocky Mount, Donnie Brake (Patricia) of Red Oak, Lolita Keel of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Joy Roberts of Battleboro, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and family friends.

Connie was especially proud of her beloved grandchildren, Jordan Flowe (Paul), Trey Perry, Lauren Perry, James Turner, Andrew Turner, Grace Gray (Matthew), Aubrey Langley, Savannah Joyner (Trevor), Chloe Hamlett, Evan Waters, Thomas Sugg, Caden Hamlett, Eli Perry and Easton Langley, and great grandchildren, Ezra and Mary Flowe....a true legacy.

Friends and family will be gathering at the home of Brandie Perry Friday evening, June 6 from 6-9pm, 4398 Seven Bridges Road, Battleboro, 27809.
