IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dixie Owens
Lewis
August 23, 1942 – March 11, 2025
Wilson -
With her precious family by her side, Dixie Owens Lewis finished her race here on earth and was called Home to her Savior Tuesday morning, March 11, 2025.
A wonderful life that began in Edgecombe County on August 23, 1942, Dixie was the oldest of five daughters and one son born to Richard and Annie Cummings Owens. Raised on the family farm near Pinetops, she grew to be a devoted daughter and sister, and later a loving wife and mother. She and Raymond continued their families' farming tradition in the Macclesfield community until 2014. Known for her warm smile and gift of hospitality, she radiated a genuine spirit of care and generosity that made her a welcoming hostess to strangers, friends, and family. She will always be remembered for her exceptional flair in the kitchen and her deeply rooted faith that came with being an active and vibrant member of the churches she attended through the years.
In addition to her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond T. Lewis; brother, Sam Owens; and sisters, Priscilla Bryant and Diane Oakey.
Her life was a treasured gift with years of special memories for her children, Robert B. Jones, Jr. (Delance) of Elm City, Jenny Jones Gilbert (Lewis) of Nashville, and Lorie Lewis Ellis (Alex) of Wilson; and sisters, Melvina "Bug" Gallinato (Jerry) and Vickie Roberson (Joe), all of Williamston.
She was a beloved "Mema" and "Meme" who was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Gaston King of Elm City and Thomas Ellis (fiancée Megan) of Raleigh, Jenna King (fiancé Jerod) of Wilson, Alexis Ellis Witherington (Reese) of Jacksonville, FL and Za'Nya Evans of the home, as well as two great-grandsons, Wayland and Grady. She will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, church family, and other extended relatives.
Please join family and friends for a special service to celebrate and remember Dixie at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Maccripine FWB Church, 5815 NC 111, Macclesfield, NC 27852. Burial will follow at Macclesfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00 - 1:45pm, and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Maccripine Free Will Baptist Church.
