Eddie Starkweather, Jr., age 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, September 21, 2023, after a brief stay at Nash UNC Health Care while surrounded by his family. His journey began in South Bend, Indiana on September 5, 1948, son of Edward William Starkweather Sr. and Helen Kujawski Starkweather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Starkweather.
Eddie loved his family with all his heart and leaves many wonderful memories for his beloved wife of thirty-six years, Dawn Nickerson Starkweather. He was extremely proud of his children; sons, Kevin Starkweather (Angie), David Keck (Dana), all of Rocky Mount; daughters, Angela Capps (James) of South Bend, Indiana and Bonnie Algeo (Tim) of Huntington, West Virginia. Family stories and treasured memories will be shared by his grandchildren; Travis Starkweather (Kendall), Brittany Jones, David Keck (Graceson), Rose Keck, Joshua Capps and Brandon Capps; and great-grandchild, Maverick Macklin; sisters, Janet Grueger (Tim), Sharon Hammond (special friend, Don); brothers, Alan Starkweather (WeiQin), Carl Starkweather (Tonya), Jerry Starkweather (Paula), along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eddie worked at Allied Bendix in South Bend, Indiana and was later transferred to the Rocky Mount plant, and after a successful career, he opened an automotive business called Westside Repair. He and his son, Kevin, worked side by side until his untimely passing. His favorite past times included antique motors, his hit and miss John Deere, and working on classic cars. He especially loved his 1965 GTO which was the topic of many conversations.
When Eddie wasn't working at his repair shop, he and Dawn enjoyed traveling together, especially to Key West, Florida where many fond memories were made. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends by hosting parties and gatherings at their home. Eddie was also a servant in the community and dedicated over twenty-three years with the West Edgecombe Volunteer Fire Department Board.
Eddie was loved by his family, his friends, and his community and will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Eddie's life will be held on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 at the home he and Dawn shared. Friends and family may visit any time after 12pm.
