Emma Winstead

Emma Lee Taylor Winstead, age 98, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026 at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was born in Wilson County on April 8, 1928 to Cal and Annie Bass Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsey Theron Winstead; son, Lindsey Bruce Winstead; and great-granddaughter, Emma Mackenzie Konkle.

She is survived by a loving family that includes her daughter, Emma Jo Winstead Tinsley (John) of Youngsville; son, Frank Thomas Winstead of Youngsville; daughter-in-law, Deborah Howell Winstead of Rocky Mount; brother-in-law, David Winstead (Gladys) of Rocky Mount; along with many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.

Emma especially adored her grandchildren, Emily Tinsley Konkle (Zeke) of Raleigh, Rachel Tinsley Griffin (Stephen) of Youngsville, Robert Lindsey Winstead (Tamara) of Salisbury and Jonathan Howell Winstead of Rocky Mount and great-grandchildren, William Konkle, III, Ethan Konkle, Tinsley Konkle, all of Raleigh, and Trenton Davis Griffin of Youngsville.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 23, 2026 at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, 3454 Macedonia Road, Spring Hope, NC 27882. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
