IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Enoch "El"
Lewis Joyner
August 20, 1946 – January 16, 2026
Rocky Mount –
Enoch Lewis Joyner, known to many as "EL", passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on August 20, 1946 to William Moses and Fannie Pearl Pittman Joyner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant siblings, Frances and "Baby Boy" Joyner; brothers, Charles Alan Joyner, Milton Joyner and Ronnie Joyner; sisters, Hilda Viverette and Carolyn Leonard; and daughter-in-law, Sherri Turner Joyner.
EL had many jobs throughout his life that provided well for his family, but in 1992, he decided to open EL's Bait and Tackle alongside his beloved wife, Judy. For many years he had a very good business and created many fond memories in that shop, especially with his grandchildren and "Ole Boney" as he called her. We are blessed with treasured memories from putting together minnow buckets, dipping minnows, running the register and getting bubble gum from the bubble gum machine.
Some of his favorite things to do were fishing, counting money, watching Andy Griffith, In the Heat of the Night, Gunsmoke and Old Joe Kenda as he called it. A lot of times you could find him with one of his grandkids, eating a "square" (Klondike Bar) or a "fly cake" (Raisin Cake) and drinking a Diet Mountain Dew.
EL's most cherished moments were with his wife, Judy. He adored her and was proud of the many years they had been married. He never missed a year calling the local TV station to announce their anniversary.
He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many that loved him.
EL is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Judy Batchelor Joyner; daughters, Julie Joyner of the home and Frances Richardson (Dammian); son, Kenneth "Buck" Joyner, all of Rocky Mount; bonus son whom he loved as his own, Jason Lamm; sister, Emma Joyner of Nashville; brothers, William Ray Joyner (Becky) of Rocky Mount and David Carl "Rooster" Joyner of Pinetops; and sisters-in-law, Becky Joyner and Pearl Pridgen, both of Rocky Mount.
He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Kyle (Marcal), Kasey, Quay, Destiny and Reya "lil grasshopper" as well as many special nieces, and nephews, including Garry Wayne Pridgen (Anna) of Rocky Mount, along with a host of family friends and other extended relatives.
A service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Davis-Little Funerals, 2129 Lawrence Circle, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Interment will follow at Mill Branch Cemetery, Rocky Mount. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00pm.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Amedysis Hospice and Nash UNC HealthCare for their outstanding care for our beloved EL.
