Gary Proctor

Gary Proctor, age 69, passed away at his home, Saturday, August 22, 2026, in Pikeville, North Carolina. He was born in Nash County, NC to John "Yates" and Evelyn Rose Proctor, both of whom preceded him in death.

A natural musician of remarkable talents (not an exaggeration), Gary was known for his love of everything musical. He could play most any instrument, within any genre, and for most any crowd. Through the years, he's enjoyed playing with different bands at a variety of venues, including Hard Times and Country Music, USA. 

He was also a brother who loved his family, friends and Jesus. He made many friends and acquaintances throughout his music career as well as during his time managing Pioneer Pawn Shop. Never a complicated or needy person, Gary preferred life to be simple, people to be kind, and his music loud and meaningful. He will always be loved and remembered by his brother, John Yates Proctor, Jr. of Rocky Mount; special friends, Buddy Rodgers and Tim Harper; and many nieces, nephews, friends and extended relatives.

In accordance with Gary's personal wishes, no services will be held.
