With his beloved family by his side, George Woodard "Woody" Hoggard, Jr., finished his race here on earth, Sunday night, February 2, 2025.
Woody was born March 23, 1946 in Bertie County to George Woodard and Una Bell Phelps Hoggard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Georgia Yvonne Hoggard Peaden; son, Jonathan Earl Hoggard; granddaughter, Nancy Marie Hoggard Shaffer; and sister, Una Marie Hoggard Everette. He grew to become a loving son, husband, brother, grandfather and dear friend. His life was a treasured gift to his many friends and relatives and will be deeply missed.
He leaves a lifetime of cherished memories for his devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Delores Cannon Hoggard; children, James Kelly Hoggard (Denise) of Tarboro and George Woody Hoggard III (Leslie) of Macclesfield; brothers, Lee Hoggard (Aya) of Springfield, VA, David Hoggard and Joe Hoggard of Tarboro; grandchildren, Victoria Hillard (Tyler) of Farmville, James Hoggard (Brandy) of Sharpsburg, Kenny Bowen (Ashley) of Conetoe, Moresa Stalls (AJ) Temperance Hall, and Megan Hoggard of Macclesfield; daughter-in-law, Patrica "Nita" Lashway (Berry) of Richmond, VA; along with many family friends and other extended relatives. Woody's family circle especially overflowed with love and pride for his seven great-grandchildren.
Woody had a passion for the outdoors and more than anything, he loved to fish. His legacy of kindness, and unwavering commitment to others leaves a lasting impact on those who knew him. He was known for his generosity, often helping others without hesitation and offering support whenever it was needed. Woody will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kindness, and the immense love he had for his family and community.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
