IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ginny Kay
(Rackley) Hunter
October 4, 1958 – August 24, 2025
Whitakers -
Ginny Kay Rackley Hunter, 66, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Whitakers, N.C on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Ginny was born on October 4, 1958 in Clarksville, T.N. She was the youngest child of Nashville, N.C natives, Francis Ondra Rackley and Dorothy Harris Rackley. Francis was a decorated World War II Army Veteran who reached the rank of Sergeant First Class. Francis also fought in the Korean War. Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for the family. While Francis was still commissioned with the Army, the family lived in several states and also overseas in Germany before finally returning back to Nashville, N.C. sometime in the 1960s, and making their home on Lumber street. Ginny had many fond memories as a child in Nashville but always hoped to be able to make it back to Germany someday.
After graduating high school, Ginny received her Associates Degree from Nash Community College and went on to manage two different businesses for many years before retiring. She continued to be a homemaker and put her creative, crafty skills to use on many projects inside and out.
Ginny was known as a very intelligent, insightful, and resourceful woman who always put her family and pets first, constantly thinking of them and their needs before her own. She was never selfish and always generous. Her children have said that throughout their lives, she was always there for them, any day or night.
Ginny is survived by her beloved husband of 29 years, Michael Hunter; her four children, Chris Cooper and wife, Melissa, Michael Cooper and partner, Al Critcher, Terry Cooper and wife, Ashley, Michelle Powell and husband, Chris; her six grandchildren, Jenna Ezzell, Wyatt Cooper, Emily Cooper, Riley Cooper, Christian Powell and Harley Cooper; her sister, Gail Rackley Wilson; her brother, Phil Rackley and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, James and Sandy Hunter; her maternal grandparents, Alton Sidney and Elizabeth Faulk Harris and her paternal grandparents, Elisha Mann and Mamie Holland Rackley.
The family would also like for her cherished companions and "fur babies" to be noted as her survivors and predecessors as she always made it clear they were family as well. She is survived by her cats, Leo, Simon, Johnny, Oreo, Garrett, and Bailey; her dogs, Ginger and Ozzy and an unnamed opossum who she recently started caring for. She was predeceased by her dogs, Odie, Bridget, Amos, Mollie, Emma, Ellie, Andy, Jesse, and Peanut Butter; her cats, Callie, Harris, and lastly, her ferret, Spaz. She often expressed she looked forward to meeting with them, along with her parents again in her Heavenly life.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date to honor her wishes.
Flowers may be sent to 4675 Redwood Lane, Whitakers, N.C 27891 or in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any animal, veteran or children's charity of your choice.
