IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Grace Carrington
(Cosby) Edwards
May 23, 1942 – February 22, 2024
Zebulon -
Grace Carrington Edwards, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2024. The first of three children born to Grace Alexander Laurens Cosby and William Tatum Cosby, Grace Carrington entered the world with a smile on her face and a song in her heart. Soon after, the song burst forth from her lungs and never stopped. Even on hospice, she continued to tap her toes to the songs in her head.
Her love of music led to her career as a music educator in the public schools of Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia. Grace Carrington made a difference in the lives of many young people who gained confidence in themselves through her many productions in the schools.
Under the direction of Robert Shaw, Grace sang with the Atlanta Symphony Chorus and was also part of its Chamber Chorus. This enabled her to travel to France and England three summers. She was also the soloist in several church choirs.
Grace Carrington received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Madison College (now James Madison University).
In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Ralph Edwards, Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Carrington Edwards and Joseph Gregory Robinson of Zebulon; grandchildren, Micah Seven Edwards of Zebulon, Dorian Jasmine Edwards of Somerset, KY and Jeffery Clark Edwards of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Mary Marshall Dekkers of Snellville, GA and Ann Laurens Williams of Richmond, VA.
The family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 9, 2:00 pm, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 834 Durham Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
