Gretchen Rackley Johnson, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 10, 2023. She was born in Nash County, North Carolina on June 28, 1943 to Medy C. and Mary Kathryn Rackley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Artemus "Art" Johnson; sister, Linda Griffin and brother, Medy C. "Ricky" Rackley, Jr.

She leaves a lifetime of treasured memories for her son, Artemus "Ransom" Johnson, Jr. and wife, Heather; daughters, Scarlett Johnson Pittman and husband, Gregg, and Christiania Faith Johnson; sister, Peggy Drummond; grandchildren, Hannah Reece and husband, Christopher, Abigail Adcox, Brooke Johnson, and Sara Johnson; sister-in-law, Melinda Johnson Williamson; niece, Gail Jirik and husband, John; great-nieces, Brandy, Ginger, Brittany; great-nephew, John Jr.; her sweet fur baby, Max. She will also be deeply missed by her loving church family, many friends and other extended relatives.

A service to celebrate Gretchen's life will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Harvest Baptist Church, 2325 Old Mill Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Pastor Mike Dew officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd, Rocky Mount.
