Obituary

Rocky Mount-

Harriet Parker Howell, age 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday afternoon, June 18, 2024 with her loving husband by her side. Her life began on February 20, 1946 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina as the third daughter born to Theodore Taft "Country" and Evada Rhodes Parker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Parker Griffin; granddaughter, Leah Whiteside Howell; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Gayle Hess.

Harriet grew up in Rocky Mount and graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School. She received nursing training at Parkview Hospital and began a career at Boice Willis Clinic where she served as Dr. George Rufus Ratchford's nurse. After her retirement, due to having MS, she became bedridden and often this is where the story would end, but not for Harriet. She began a card ministry and a Mary Kay business from her bed and touched many lives with her positive attitude and by sharing her love for her Lord. She set a wonderful example for those around her and was a constant reminder of God's love and grace.

Harriet was deeply loved by her devoted husband of fifty-six years, Grady Ward Howell; sons, Darrell Ward Howell (Catherine) of Newport, NC and James Taft Howell (Elizabeth) of Wake Forest, NC; sister, Judy Parker Willis of Sumerduck, Va.; along with many nieces, nephews, family friends and other extended relatives.

Harriet was especially proud of and adored her grandchildren, Hannah Howell Hess (Michael), Brendan Ward Howell (Ashley), Ryland Laurence Howell, Tre' Anthony Sawyer, Kenneth Davis Howell, Carter Benjamin Howell and Grant James Howell and great granddaughter, Mary-Grace Lauren Hess.

Please join family and friends for a Celebration of Harriet's Life at 2:00 pm, Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina with Reverend Brandon Dees and Reverend Blake Sorie officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service, also at the church. The family respectfully asks that visits be limited to the church.

A special note of appreciation is extended to Alyssa and Leah with Heartland Hospice of Cary, and Harriet's cousin, Brenda Rhodes, for all of their love and care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Hospital for Children or to Calvary Baptist Church (Ramp Ministry), 505 Englewood Dr. Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
