James Alfred Smith, Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 31, 2021 surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 18, 1937, to James Alfred Smith, Sr. and Irene Braswell Smith. James was a farmer most of his life. He always provided his nephew, nieces, and all the children of the neighborhood with summer jobs. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and raising bird dogs, which he loved like children. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his significant other of many years, Wanda Marlowe and her extended family; one sister, Lois Williams and special brother-in-law, Luby Williams; one nephew, Brian Williams (Dee); two nieces, Teresa Williams (Calvin) and Gwen Williams (Van); four great nephews, three great nieces, three great-great nephews, two great-great nieces, and many cousins and friends.

A graveside service, officiated by Pastor David Taylor, will be held at Pineview Cemetery on Friday, February 5, 2021, at 11 A.M.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Kindred Hospice, specifically to Dr. Bello and his staff, for the outstanding care received.
