IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane Fountain
Blocker
July 21, 1941 – August 17, 2022
Richmond/Rocky Mount -
Jane Bryson Fountain Blocker graciously and eagerly entered the Church Triumphant in the wee hours of August 17, 2022 after a brief hospitalization. Humble, joyful, and genteel to the end, she spoke lovingly of the family she would leave behind and her fervent hope that we would join her in Heaven.
With an unshakable faith in Jesus, Jane was not afraid of dying. She had recently re-read "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn and anticipated comparing his description to the real place.
Jane was born in Rocky Mount, NC, to Benjamin Eagles Fountain, Sr. and Emmie Jane Green Fountain on July 21, 1941. Jane often marveled that she was the last baby of a last baby (her grandmother was 49 when her 11th child, Jane's daddy, was born). She remarked just the day before she died "what a thing" it was that all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren existed because of the providence of God.
Jane grew up in Rocky Mount. She was a shy, blue-green eyed, blonde little girl who grew into a petite dark-haired beauty with a gorgeous smile (though she would never say it of herself). She enjoyed the fashions of the 50s and 60s and learned, with her mother's help, to sew many of her own clothes. She loved pretty shoes. She was talented in needlework and crafts of all kinds. She was an avid reader. She loved people and wrote many letters and cards throughout her life.
Jane was graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School and was active in many clubs. She was married at 18 to Paris Edward (Eddie) Booth. She attended NC Wesleyan College before moving to Raleigh where they started their family and had three children together.
Jane was raised in the First Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount and later joined Arlington (Street) Baptist Church when she married Harry Kenneth Blocker, Sr., a widower, and father of two. Continually drawn to Christ and desiring to strengthen her faith, she rededicated herself to her Lord.
After retiring from Wilson Memorial Hospital, she relocated to Richmond, VA. She joined Staples Mill Road Baptist Church there. Although she was unable to attend in person, Jane enjoyed listening to the rebroadcasts and live sermons of her beloved pastor and son, Jim Booth.
The joy of Jane's life was her family – being a wife, mother, grandmother and GiGi (great grandmother). She and Kenneth were married for nearly 29 years and together they raised their five children. They enjoyed horseback riding and "scooterpootin'" which apparently meant taking a drive without five lively kids and enjoying some gas station peanuts and Pepsi-Cola.
Jane enjoyed sitting on her front porch swing and singing with her children and, later, her grandchildren. She and Kenneth supported all the various athletic, musical, artistic, and educational pursuits of their brood with their time, attention, and presence.
Jane was a prayer warrior and a resilient human being, overcoming challenge after challenge without becoming bitter. She showed this trait again and again. As her physical health declined, she sustained a number of injuries and reduced mobility. She kept falling and kept getting back up. She kept living, kept giving thanks in all circumstances, and kept loving her family and her Lord. Through it all she was joyful.
In recent years, her outings were only to medical appointments. Still, Jane was friendly with all her providers and their staffs. They became her friends, and she knew and cared about their lives and families.
Jane often mentioned that she was content in her apartment with her most recent little companion, a Jack Russell named Miley, and before that with her Shih Tzu, Milo.
Through the pandemic she discouraged visitors, saying she did not want to get sick and go to a nursing home. However, she loved talking on the phone. She was wonderful about calling to check in or to leave a message expressing her love. She lived for the details of her children's and grandchildren's adventures and activities. She was so proud of the talents, abilities, and interests of each one and would share details among them, keeping the family connected in that way. Mom spent hours each week on the phone with her longtime friends. The family thanks them for their dedicated and consistent friendship.
Second to Jesus, Jane was excited to join Kenneth and her parents in Heaven. Also there to greet her would be brothers, Benjamin Eagles Fountain, Jr., Arthur Green Fountain, Sr; nephew, Arthur Green Fountain, Jr. and so many of the Fountain and Green families and their faithful ancestors.
Jane is survived by her children, Harry Kenneth Blocker, Jr., (Pam) of Lewisville, NC, George Edward Booth (Martha) of Rock Hill, SC, Elizabeth Ann Blocker Moseley (Ross) of Knightdale, NC, Jane Bryson Booth Jenkins (Michael), of Trenton, NC and Dr. James Fountain Booth (Joy) of Glen Allen, VA; grandchildren, George Peyton Jenkins of New Bern NC, Kaley Elizabeth Moseley of Wake Forest, NC, Hilary Joy Booth Mackey (Evan) of Midlothian, VA, Meredith Leigh Jenkins Werline (Tyler) of Trenton, NC, Samuel Yates Booth (Rhianna) of Columbia, TN, Lauren Michelle Moseley of Wake Forest, NC, Joseph Blair Booth (Addie) of Los Angeles, CA, Layne Bryson Jenkins of Trenton, NC, Lindsey Hope Booth of Glen Allen, VA and Lauren Faith Booth of Glen Allen, VA; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Fountain Booth, Yates William Booth, Calvin George Booth, Alexander Basil Booth, Emilia Louise Werline, Weston Oliver Werline, Everly Joy Mackey, and Ethan Cole Mackey. Also remaining to cherish her memory are sister-in-law, Mary Lou Fountain; nieces, Elizabeth Fountain, Stephanie F. Bynum, Claire F. Watkins, Susan F. Eubanks; nephew, Ben Fountain III and their families.
A service to honor God and celebrate Jane's life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Edgemont Baptist Church, 1622 West Mount Dr, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. Interment will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount. Friends may visit family prior to the service beginning at 10:30AM.
