Jimmy Cockrell, age 80, passed away Wednesday morning November 30, 2022 at Autumn Care of Nash in Nashville, NC. He was born on September 4, 1942 in Nash County to Dossie and Effie Stone Cockrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Edward Manring and brother, Joseph Cockrell.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sara Star Cockrell; children, Pamela Renee Cockrell and family friend, Lynn Whitaker of Sanford, Julie Ann McLeod of Fayetteville, Tracy Aileen Ricks (Bert) of Spring Hope, Wayne Francis Sands of Aberdeen, Robin Dwayne Sands (Karen) of Asheboro, Phillip Wayne Cockrell of Lillington, and Debra Ann Cockrell of Tarboro; brother, J.R. Cockrell (Joyce) of Nashville; ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; beloved canine companions, Little John and Max and many nieces and nephews and other extended relatives.

A memorial service will be held Monday, December 5, 2022 at 2:00PM at Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Rd, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00PM and other times at the home.
