Jimmy Garland Medlin, age 73, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025. He was born in the family home in Castalia, North Carolina on October 9, 1951. He was preceded in death by his father, James Willard Medlin; mother and step-father, Thelma and Andrew Manning and brother, Raymond Medlin.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Leslie Vinson Medlin; daughters, Leigh Anne Thurston (Randy) of Fayetteville and Melissa Rae Medlin of Raleigh; grandchildren, Abby, Jackson and Micah Thurston and sister, Barbara Burgess of Nashville.

Shortly after Jimmy was born, his father passed away. His mother married Andrew Manning who had a large part in raising him. He was raised with a strong work ethic which he exemplified during his many dedicated years at Gardner's BBQ. Jimmy was also a long-time member of Arlington Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including being a deacon and Sunday school leader.

After suffering a stroke in 1990, Jimmy went back to school and received an associate degree from Nash Community College and then went on to get his bachelor's degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College. His perseverance and unwavering faith during his health challenges were a true testament of his character and he will be deeply missed.

A service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm.
