Tarboro -

Joseph Raymon "Joe" Taylor, Sr., 94, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026. He was born in Tarboro, NC on October 27, 1931 to Luther and Mary E. Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Pete, Bertha, Addie Pat, Dwight Spencer, and Buddy Taylor; wife, Aileen Taylor; and son, Joseph Raymon Taylor, Jr.

He leaves behind to cherish in his memories, a loving family which includes his children, Mary Taylor Bunting (John), Mike Taylor (Nick), Susan Taylor Harris (Phil); daughter-in-law, Denise Taylor; grandchildren, Nikki Taylor (Emily), Paige Lane (Josh), Casey Taylor, Logan Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor; great grandchildren, Cayden and Jaxson Lane; special friends, Sue Bunting, Dee Darden, Ronald Coburn and a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

After graduating from Tarboro High School, he went to work at McCrorys Dime Store while piloting store locations in various states. Opening the store in Pittsburgh, he met the love of his life and they married in 1964. Traveling back to Tarboro, North Carolina with his new bride, they settled down and started their family. As one of the first employees at Black & Decker, beginning in 1971 on the assembly line, he worked his way up to store manager before retiring in 1995.

Together, he and his wife shared their love of yard sales and the home rental business, doing his own repairs with the help of his children and grandchildren up until his final days. He loved to be out in his garden, rocking on the front porch, watching Westerns, and spending quality time with his fur baby, Fendi. His loved ones will miss his quick wit, wealth of knowledge, and warm embrace.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Greenwood Cemetery, Tarboro. The family will greet friends immediately following.
