Julia "Judy" Louise Hayes, age 76, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, NC after a long illness. She was born on January 3, 1946. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Osmond and Helen Weeks Hayes and her brother, WC Hayes and sister, Mary Hayes Lee Watson.

She is survived by her brother, Bob Weeks and wife, Janet of Virginia and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces that she doted on.

Judy grew up in Rocky Mount during her youth and was a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church. She was also known growing up as "Hayes" or "Haynes". Judy received her Associate Degree from Chowan College in Nursing and her BSN from Duke University, and Advanced Studies in Nursing at NCCU. After graduation, Judy was employed by Duke Hospital for 20+ years and became Head Nurse of Labor & Delivery where she delivered many babies into this world. After her time with Duke, she worked as a Clinical Trials Nurse and traveled extensively. She loved the beach, travel, knitting, her fur babies, Duke Basketball and ball room dancing. She was an excellent seamstress, following in her mother's footsteps. Although she never married, nor had any biological children, she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Judy especially enjoyed Christmas and other holidays with her family. She will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, July 14th, 2022 at Southside Baptist Church, 4948 Carter Rd, Elm City, NC 27822. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00pm.
