Julia Dodd Masters

Julia Dodd Masters, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She was born on March 15, 1943 in Wilson County to Felix and Anne Bass Dodd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Ed Masters and son, Paul Masters.

Julia enjoyed operating a consignment shop, Peddler’s Retreat, during the mid 1980s – early 1990s. She volunteered in her community in different capacities, and jumped at every opportunity to pull for her Duke Blue Devils, cheering them on loudly and proudly.

She is survived by her children, Todd Joseph Masters (Margaret) of Fort St. Lucia, FL, Travis Griffin Masters (Veronica) of Pinetops and Anne Masters Barmer (Daniel) of Nashville; sisters, Linda Dodd Chandler (Dave) of Angier and Martha Dodd Slippy (Tom) of Emporia, VA; grandchildren, Cole (Ashley), Hunter, Zak, Haley and Alex; along with many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.

The family will host a memorial service at 4:00pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Englewood Methodist Church, 300 S Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, beginning at 3:00 pm, and other times at the home.

To honor Julia’s dedication to her beloved Duke Blue Devils, we would love to see everyone dressed in her favorite blue. Additionally, we plan to further honor Julia with a Memorial Garden using the beautiful floral tributes gifted to us from friends and family.
