Obituary

Rocky Mount -

Katherine Ann Collins was born December 29, 1933 to Josephine Faircloth and Fleming William Collins.  After her mother's passing when Katherine was nine years old, she was raised by her father and step-mother, Dora Belle Collins.  In addition to her parents and step-mother, Katherine was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, William David Collins, and her step-sister, Susan Bryant Ennis.

Shortly after high school, Katherine moved from Rocky Mount, NC to Charlotte, NC where she lived for 40 years.  Katherine was a devoted employee of Duke Energy and also worked part-time for Sears.  In her spare time, she loved going to gospel singings, attending Charlotte Hornets' basketball games, and volunteering with Junior Achievement.

After retirement, Katherine moved back to Rocky Mount to be closer to family.  She also reconnected with her church family at Calvary Baptist Church.  Katherine loved children and served for many years as a pre-school Sunday school teacher and AWANA leader.

Known for her good cooking and willingness to serve, Katherine found great joy in serving her church family with her sister Peggy Anderson and her dear friends Hazel Bryant, Ann Andrews, and Flora Lamm on the church hostess committee.  For many years, she held a special place in her heart for preparing for Jody Shearon's birthday parties, which also benefited Operation Christmas Child.

Katherine never married nor had children of her own, but she extended much love, kindness, and generosity to her nieces Becky Ennis Pilotte, Brenda Ennis Frazer, Cindy Anderson Speight & Deborah Anderson Connor; her nephew Doug Ennis; great-nieces Erin Connor Kennedy & Sally Hausken; and great-nephew Danny Hausken.

Perhaps most fulfilling were her years as devoted caregiver and honorary grandmother to Haley Cobb Brantley and Morgan Cobb.

Not one to let the grass grow under her feet, Katherine continued to work part-time well into her 80's at Quality Office Equipment for her close friends Gus and Connie Cobb.

Because of her love for planning and hosting parties, the family could think of no better celebration of Katherine's life and legacy than a reception in her honor.  Katherine's home-going reception will be: Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm (floating) at Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 505 South Englewood Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

All who knew and loved Katherine are welcome to attend for a time of fellowship, good food, and singing…just as she would have liked it!
