Lee Randolph Daniel

Battleboro -

Lee Randolph Daniel passed away on April 1, 2026, in the same Edgecombe County where his life first began. He was born on December 20, 1937, to Nora Lee Hill and Rufus Guy Daniel, both of whom preceded him in death.

As a young boy, Randolph found joy in the simple pleasures of life playing baseball with friends in the grapevine fields behind his school and working at his family’s store. He also was an active 4H member while showing his prize cows at competitions. These early experiences shaped the steady work ethic and quiet appreciation for life that would define him.

Affectionately known as “Paw Paw,” served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for four years. After his service, his work as a power linesman took him as far as Arkansas before ultimately guiding him home to Nash and Edgecombe County. There, he took to heart his most cherished roles that of a devoted Daddy and steadfast anchor to his children, Angel and Randy.

Randolph dedicated 29 years of service to the City of Rocky Mount, a testament to his reliability and commitment. Upon retirement, he returned to his family’s farm, where he found peace outside raising cows and goats. He loved a road trip sampling all the country cooking from surrounding local restaurants.

A lifelong passion for cars remained a constant thread throughout his life. From his very first car, a black-top convertible gray 1948 Chevrolet to the car he proudly built and proudly named “Second Childhood,” which he enjoyed racing on weekends, his enthusiasm never faded. These labors of love reflected not only his engineering skill but also his enduring spirit of curiosity.

Above all, he will be remembered for his unshakable love for his family and his quiet, unwavering strength. As a Daddy and Paw Paw, he offered guidance not through words alone, but through example leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire those who love him.

His family extends heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers, Neasha Pettaway, Marylyn Smith, Jenney Kenney, and Mary Anthony, as well as the compassionate team at Gentiva Hospice: Laura Harris (Wilson), Cody (Nash), Amanda (Edgecombe), Angela (Edgecombe), Ashlyn (Edgecombe), Brenda (Edgecombe), Ricki (Edgecombe), and Xavia (Edgecombe). Their kindness, respect, and the gentle prayers they shared will never be forgotten and stand as a reflection of the goodness in their hearts.

He is survived by his son, Randy Daniel (Cathy) of Wilson; his son-in-law, Richard Pope; his grandchildren, Catherine-Lee Daniel Jenkins (Brittany), Forrest Brock Hinton (Ashley), Christian Victoria Hinton (Kyle), and Garrett Hinton (Gracie); and his great-grandchildren, Darcy, Beau, Georgia-Moon, Daylee-Ann, Wolfgang, and Charlie. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Daniel (Rose) of Pinetops, and his sister, Pam Lichtenberger (Karl) of Chesterfield, Virginia, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Leigh “Angel” Daniel Pope; his brother, Robert Earl Daniel; and his sister, Roberta “Bert” Daniel Mayo.

The family will hold a private celebration of life on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
