Rocky Mount -

Lucy Katie Varnell, age 76, completed her journey here on earth and was called Home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday morning, September 14, 2022 at Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount, NC. She was born on September 26, 1945 in Nash County to Lee and Sarah Sykes Godwin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Varnell; brothers, Edward, Everette, Isaac, Raymond, Cecil, Paul, and Joseph Allen Godwin; sisters, Nancy Strum, Phyllis Daniels, and Louise Joyner. She is survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Katie worked for many years with Schlage Lock Company and later with Southern Credit. She was a beloved aunt and dear friend and will be deeply missed.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 2:00PM at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, 4454 Dortches Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
