With his beloved family by his side, Luther Nicholson Andrews "Luke" finished his race here on earth, the 5th of October 2025 at the age of 85 years old.
Luther was born on December 4, 1939, in Edgecombe County to Henry Leonidas and Ruth Louise Stallings Andrews. He graduated from North Edgecombe High School in 1960. Luther retired from Anaconda (Superior Essex), in Tarboro, NC, after being a supervisor there for 40 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tracy Lynn Andrews; brothers, Alton Ray Andrews, Bobby Gene Andrews, Archie Melvin Andrews and Larry Wayne Andrews; sister, Tina Marie Sawyer Egan and granddaughter, Casey Caroline Andrews. He grew to become a loving husband, brother, grandfather and dear friend. His life was a treasured gift to his many friends and relatives and will be deeply missed.
He leaves a lifetime of cherished memories for his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Alice Parker Andrews; daughters, Angela Michelle Griffin (Gus) of Rocky Mount, NC and Denise Andrews Hoggard (Kelly) of Tarboro, NC; sister, Susie Andrews Hubbard of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Ashley Hall (Marshall ) of Washington, NC, Nicholas Andrews of Pinetops, NC, Victoria Hillard (Tyler) of Farmville, NC and Kenny Bowen (Ashley) of Conetoe, NC; best friend, Steve Speight; along with many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, friends and other extended relatives.
Luther loved sports. He played baseball, softball, basketball, bowling, hunting, fishing and especially golf. His legacy of kindness, and unwavering commitment to others leaves a lasting impact on those who knew him. He was known for his generosity, often helping others without hesitation and offering support whenever it was needed. Luther will be remembered for his strong work ethic, kindness, and the immense love he had for his family and sports.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family is receiving friends at 515 Bay Lake Street, Chocowinity, NC 27817.
