Luther W. Summerlin, 86, passed away peacefully Monday, June 16, 2025. His journey began on September 18, 1938 in Edgecombe County as one of two sons born to Charlie and Lucy Jones Summerlin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Albert Ray "Bubba" Summerlin and niece Terry S. Walston. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-eight years, Benora Summerlin; daughters Pamela Summerlin Hathaway (Pender) and Kelly Summerlin Drake (Doug), all of Pinetops; grandchildren Jamey Grasser (Bryan) of Ivor, VA, Nolan Drake (Skylar Tripp), Aaron Drake (Kaitlyn Evans) and great-grandchildren, Ashlynne Harrell, Sydney Harrell, Kyle Grasser, Aubrey Drake, Chase Drake, Mia McLawhorn, and Marcy Drake; sister-in-law Jean Summerlin, and several nieces and nephews. Luther was employed by Barnhill Contracting for over 50 years as a motor grader operator and took great pride in his work, often being considered a perfectionist. After retiring Luther enjoyed spending time with his family, his morning breakfasts with the men, tinkering at his shop, and fishing.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Pinetops Baptist Church, 710 W Hamlet St, Pinetops, NC 27864. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning, at 2:30pm, and at other times at the home.

The family wishes to send a special heartfelt "Thank You" to Gentiva Hospice of Tarboro for their professionalism, compassion, and love shown over the past few weeks.
