Nashville -
Connie “Lynette” Hinshaw Saunders passed peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on May 8, 2026. She was 70 years old. Born in Liberty, North Carolina, in Alamance County, Lynette spent her early years with her family on their farm and airstrip, surrounded by cows, chickens, dogs, and planes.
In 1991, she made Nashville, North Carolina her home, where she became known for her bright personality, warm heart, and unmistakable sense of style. Whether she was dressed in perfectly matching outfits, sparkling jewelry, or fashionable shoes, Lynette carried herself with grace and confidence everywhere she went. She found happiness in vacationing at the beach, shopping, puzzles, bowling, softball, dancing, and most of all, spending time with her family. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.
Lynette devoted more than 30 years of service to Nash General Hospital, where she cared deeply for both her work and the people around her. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, seen, and loved. A faithful Christian and devoted member of Arlington Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina for over 30 years, Lynette loved the Lord and lived her faith through compassion, generosity, and encouragement to others. One of her favorite sayings was, “You can always start over,” a phrase she often heard from her father.
Lynette is survived by her daughter, Morgan Simmons (Jonathan); her beloved grandchildren, Ashton and Lacey Simmons; and her three nieces, Michelle, Toni, and Traci. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Earl Hinshaw; her mother, Ola Ann Hinshaw; and her brother, Gene Raymond Hinshaw.
Those who knew Lynette will remember her for her kindness, laughter, resilience, deep faith, and the light she brought into every room. Her love for her family and friends will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Memorial donations are appreciated and may be made to Crohns Colitis Foundation.
Lynette's family will receive friends during a Special Time of Remembrance, from 2:00 - 4:00pm, Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
The family would like to recognize and deeply thank the staff at Hospice of Wilson and Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their superior care.
