Lynn Randall Ward, 74, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024. He was born February 3, 1950 in Norfolk, Virginia to Edison Powers Ward, Sr. and Thelma McDaniel Ward. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Lee Ward. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 51 years, Ellen Whitehurst Ward; son, Brian Christopher Ward (Tobey); daughter, Bethany Ward Ramsey, and grandchildren, Sidney Ramsey, Carsyn Ward, Ben Ramsey, and Delaney Ward. He is also survived by his brother, Edison Powers Ward, Jr.
Lynn attended Central High School in Elizabeth City, NC where he met the love of his life, Ellen, and graduated in 1968. He continued his education at North Carolina State University and earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation in 1972 and continued until his retirement in December 2003. He received the North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine on December 30, 2003 for his years of work and service to the state of North Carolina.
He was also a faithful member of Nashville Methodist Church for 50 years. He served in all committees of the church. He was a Lay Speaker, taught Sunday school, led children and youth events, sang in the choir, cooked meals, led Appalachian Service Project groups, participated in Compassion Cafe, drove the bus, and fixed whatever was broken. He was a member of Community Christian Service (the "Ramp Guys") and helped to build wheelchair ramps for families in need. He was an active member of the Heart of Carolina Emmaus Community. He spent his time in service to the Lord and to others.
Visitation with family and friends will be Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 12:00 - 1:30 PM at Nashville Methodist Church, 209 E Washington St, Nashville, NC; followed by a memorial service in the church sanctuary at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nashville Methodist Church for Appalachian Service Project, or Community Christian Service.
