Mattie "Jean" Winslow

Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2026, our beloved mother, sister, granny, and dear friend peacefully fell asleep at home and awoke in her eternal Home in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mattie “Jean” Winslow, age 86, was born in Beaufort County, North Carolina on March 30, 1940 to Amos and Maggie Jones Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, William Frank Winslow, Jr; brothers, Victor, Raymond and Phillip Taylor and sisters, Ella Newton and Margaret Smith.

She will be long remembered with laughter, smiles, and sweet tears of joy by her loving family that includes her children, Liz Winslow of Tennessee, Hannah Brown (Ronnie), Frankie Winslow (Deborah) and Janet Casper (David), all of Tarboro; sister, Rosa Bateman (Wayne) of Tarboro; her special friends, LaRue Harris and Jean and Lynwood Sessoms; along with several nieces, nephews and a host of other extended relatives.

Jean was a faithfully praying "Granny" to her precious grandchildren, Nikki Rogers (Aaron), Kimberly Elrod (Jason), Casey King (Michael), Brittany Floyd (Steven), David Earl Casper, Jr (Michelle) and Caitlyn Strickland (Corey); great-grandchildren, Logan Stroud (Taylor), Wyatt, Sophie, Jayden, Bailey, Madelyn, Noah, Cole, Liam, Dallas, Dalton, Colton and Eli; and great-great-grands, Bella and Ryker.

A service to honor God and remember Jean’s wonderful life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Tarboro Church of God, 908 W. St. James Street, Tarboro, NC 27886. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Tarboro. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm, and other times at the home.
