Michael Gene Ezzell, age 67, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2021. He was born on June 27, 1954, in Wilson County to Millard and Margaret Bass Ezzell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Dorothy Ezzell; brother, Larry Ezzell; and infant son, Chad Ezzell.

He is survived by his daughter, Brandi Ezzell of Battleboro; brother, Kenneth Ezzell and wife, Sandy of Wilson; sister, Sherrie Mercer and husband, Lee of Wilson; granddaughters, Layla and Lizzie Jones; nieces, Jessica Ferris (Michael), Andrea Ezzell, and Brittany Vedia (Nick); and nephew, Ronnie Langley, Jr. (Brooke).

Gene found joy in music which led him to become a DJ. He cemented his love for DJ'ing at Ocean Drive Beach Club (later known as Club Image) in Rocky Mount which then led to playing at local events until his health issues no longer allowed him to continue. He DJ'd for many shag fans at Reflections Night Club, Club Image, and MxB3 nightclubs. Gene especially had a love for Carolina Beach Music. When Gene wasn't busy DJ'ing or listening to beach music, he could be found riding his motorcycle or relaxing at the beach. He was also known for dressing up as Santa Clause for the local children. He also spent his time at the Moose Lodge in Wilson where he eventually became the governor. Gene will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 6:00 PM at the Wilson Moose Lodge, 2705 Forest Hills Rd SW, Wilson, NC 27893. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 9:00 PM.
