Michael Joyner

Michael S. Joyner, age 73, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina. He was a Valentine's Day baby born in 1953 to Lee and Elsie Vick Joyner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret, Bruce, Bonnie, and Tim Joyner. 

He is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of thirty-nine years, Julie Esther Joyner; children, Shannon Joyner of Colerain, Jeremiah Joyner, Mary Joyner, Benjamin Joyner, Janie Joyner, and Joshua Joyner, all of Rocky Mount; sister, Joy Elaine Evans of Charlotte; father-in-law, Ronald Rose; sister-in-law, Rebecca Rose Gordon, both of Rocky Mount. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Lily Mari and Levi Hedgepeth, along with several nieces, nephews, family friends and other extended relatives. 

Michael loved God. He loved his family and he was a lifetime fan of the New York Yankees. He was a fighter from the beginning, always standing up for what was right even if it meant taking up for a stranger. Most of his working career was being a security guard. If one is needed in Heaven, we're sure he will be there!

A service to celebrate and remember Michael will be held at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Christ Fellowship Church, 1300 Goldrock Rd, Rocky Mount, NC  27804. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 pm to 5:45 pm. Interment will take place at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at the Vick Joyner Family Cemetery.
