Rocky Mount -

Michael James Murray, 63, died Sunday, August 10, 2025 at his residence surrounded by family after a courageous battle with liver disease. He was preceded in death by his father, William R. Murray.

Mike was born in Rocky Mount and attended Rocky Mount Senior High. His most rewarding work was owning and operating his own business – Honeydo Handyman Services. Mike loved life. He enjoyed boating and fishing at Lake Gaston and most recently garnered an interest in golf. Mike also loved cooking, especially for others. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his beloved canine companions, Lil Bit and Taylor and those furry friends who preceded him in death, Buster Brown, Zoe, Bonnie, Clyde, Muffin and Sandy.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Murray; mother, Evelyn Murray; sister, Brenda Sherrod (Jerry); brother, Rickey Murray (Karen); aunt, Sue Lancaster; uncles, Patrick Webb (Tommy) and Carson Webb (Dottie); nephews, Travis Sherrod, Bradley Sherrod and Stephen Sherrod, Devin Sherrod (Nicole) and nieces, Amanda Murray and Meghan Murray (Kyle).

Mike will also be missed by his cousins, John Lawrence, Myra, Vann (Lori), Rhonda, Jenny and Marjorie Thompson; great-nieces, Tara Lyn, Avery, Stella and Athena; great-nephews, Sawyer and Asher; and special friend, Susan Rhodes.

A Celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date.
