IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael "Mike"
Staton Cummings
October 19, 1956 – December 8, 2025
Macclesfield -
Michael "Mike" Staton Cummings, Sr., age 69, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 8th, 2025.
Born and raised in Edgecombe County, Mike was the guy everybody knows. From lawnmower repair/tinkering (skills he learned and inherited from his dad) to managing the county landfill for many years, Mike was well known in his community where he made many lasting friendships and was always eager for conversations and debates. He was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed fishing with his two sons (even if there were no fish to catch), and playing with his granddaughter in person or FaceTiming her daily. He loved piddling on lawn mowers and he could make some of the best collards in town. He relished in being the subject matter expert, and making others laugh. The man you met is the man he always was, one that was true to himself and his family. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and wanted people to remember him affectionately as the Dad, husband, "Pop Pop" and friend that would do whatever it took to make others happy and he always wanted to be helpful, even to those he didn't even know.
Mike was preceded in death by his father in 2008, Staton Lawrence Cummings, and has missed him everyday since. Their reunion was undoubtedly breathtakingly beautiful.
He leaves a lifetime of treasured memories for his wife of forty-seven years, Vickie Webb Cummings; sons, Michael Staton Cummings, Jr. of Tarboro and Colby Tripp Cummings and wife, Rhonda of Cedar Point; granddaughter, Aubrey Ann Cummings; mother, Dorothy Tripp Cummings of Pinetops; and sister, Ginger C. Pate and husband, Tommy of Winterville.
He will also be missed by his niece, Casey Pate and nephew, George Pate (Mackenzie Harris), all of Winterville; special friends, Steven and Casey Sills of Pinetops, along with many family friends and other extended relatives.
We lost our best friend, father and confidant who fought his battle with courage, faith and most of all, hope. We all prayed for healing and he has finally met Jesus face to face with a total healing.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Mike with memorial donations to ECU Health Cancer Care
