IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Milton "Mickey"
Griffin
December 6, 1936 – September 7, 2024
Rocky Mount -
Milton "Mickey" Forbes Griffin, age 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 7, 2024 at his home. His journey began in Edgecombe County on December 6, 1936, son of Clyde and Sallie Forbes Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Bessie "Lou" Griffin; stillborn son, Clyde Griffin; brother, John Stokes Griffin and sister, Willie Sue Tripp.
He leaves a lifetime of treasured memories for his family including his children, Glen Griffin of Rocky Mount, Barbara Ann Peaden and husband, Bruce of Tarboro and Mike Griffin and wife, Stephanie of Rocky Mount; sister, Marie Matthews of Wilson; sisters-in-law, Diane Scott and Brenda Jefferson; along with several nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.
He was especially proud of his grandchildren, Cameron Griffin (Beth), Kenneth Wooten (April), Heath Wooten (Nikki), Don Wooten, Rebecca Modlin (Geo), Victoria Griffin (Harley), Michael Shane Griffin (Nova) and nine great-grandchildren.
Mickey was a proud veteran having served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1962. Shortly after enlisting, he married his high school sweetheart, Lou, on November 6, 1955. Following his military service, his advanced mechanical skills served him well in the business he owned and operated, AAA Heating & Air, for many years. He also sported a green thumb and was an avid gardener, often reaping a bounty of beautiful red tomatoes generously shared with his friends and neighbors. His garden was more of a "farm garden" and the topic of many enjoyable conversations with his gardening buddies. Together, Mickey and Lou created a life they loved with their children and grandchildren, often going fishing, camping and taking trips to Myrtle Beach.
He was a devoted and long-time member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church serving in various capacities such as building maintenance, groundskeeper, and deacon. Mickey's memory will live on forever through his family, friends and West Edgecombe Baptist Church family.
Mickey's family is deeply grateful for the special care lovingly given by his son, Glen, and the wonderful staff of Nash UNC Hospice and Palliative Care. They provided unmatched comfort and attention that helped make these last days peaceful and restful when Mickey needed it the most. Our hearts will never forget the kindness and compassion shown to our daddy and our family.
A service to celebrate Mickey's wonderful life will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, September 12, 2024 at West Edgecombe Baptist Church, 13821 NC Highway 43 N, Rocky Mount, NC 27801. Interment with military honors will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Pinetops. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00am and other times at the home.
