Philip Warren Barnes, age 66, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, North Carolina. He was born in Nash County on November 8, 1957 to James Robert and Joyce Proctor Barnes, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sisters, Shirley Barnes McLaughlin and Rhonda Brown and husband, Tracy Brown; nephew, James Adam McLaughlin, all of Nashville; long time girlfriend, Brenda Farmer and her daughter, Lisa Baker.

Philip was an avid outdoorsman, often found working tobacco in the hot summers, driving the John Deere tractor, tending to his garden and cooking delicious meals on the grill after a long day's work. Growing up, he had many friends and enjoyed riding horses with them. He was also an animal advocate and especially had a fondness for cats, dogs and horses. Philip was a caring brother, companion, and uncle and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, March 8, 2024 at Davis-Little Funerals, 2129 Lawrence Circle, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Interment will follow at Barnes Family Cemetery.
