Rocky Mount –

Phyllis Shearin Malpass, age 59, passed away peacefully Monday, January 22, 2024 at UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was born in Nash County on November 3, 1964. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Malpass and father, John Arthur Shearin.

She is survived by her mother, Louise Viverette Shearin of Rocky Mount; sister, Ann Shearin Coley (Rev. James), also of Rocky Mount; brother, Terry Jonathan Shearin of Kinston; aunt, Charlotte Shearin and special cousin, Vickie Joyner Glover. Phyllis will also be missed by her niece, Heather Coley Michaelson (Rev. John); nephew, Travis Coley (Jennifer); and great-nephews, John "JJ", James and Jonas Michaelson, Blake McRoy, Aaron and Noah Coley; along with other extended relatives.

The family will host a memorial service on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 2:00pm at Nashville Church of God, 308 Western Avenue, Nashville, NC 27856 with Reverend Bruce Brumfield officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30pm.
