Obituary

Rocky Mount

What a life – from Keechtown, Tarboro to Goldsboro Odd Fellows Home for Children to a military career in the Air Force and a Federal government job in transportation specializing in Air Traffic Control. No one would have guessed at an early age just how intelligent he was – but they watched from afar at his successes.  Good with people – a charmer. Energized by conversing with anyone – anywhere. A leader he proved to be as Vice President of his local PATCO union. But that role led him down an unexpected path.  Starting over in his hometown he once again proved how resourceful he could be. Going back to get degrees for a new career, then landing administrative jobs at Hardee's and Eagle Transport. These are places he met his best friends in life and sports – Robert (Cuz) Baker & Philip Ethridge. That hometown is where he picked back up his love of sports. He excelled there too, and it helped give him the confidence and pleasure he needed in life. From golf with his buddy, Cuz, to volleyball and softball, if there was a field, he was in it!

Health challenges came but he is a fighter. His doctor remarked "I don't know why you are not worse off – with more issues." We knew – it was prayer every morning.  When sepsis showed up – the fight began again. No match!!  But then he tired and grew weary of it all – "I can't wait to get on that field again. I want to play ball." The only way that was possible was HEAVEN!

Randy was preceded in death by his brother Vernon Savage and mother Josephine Savage Williamson.

Randy leaves behind his wife Cathy (56 years of marriage), son Steve Langston, daughter Nikki Martin, grandsons, Hunter House and Isaac Martin, brothers Edward Langston, Allen Langston, Carl Langston, special brother & sister-in-law Larry & Vanesse Edgerton, special cousin Paula Haste.  And some very special adopted family members: Eddy Barany, Keon Fulwood, Tom & Hope Humphrey & family, Hannah Landry, Hunter & Katelyn Joyner, Mae Mae & Walker.

"If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together…There is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think…But the most important thing is, even if we're apart…I'll always be with you."  - Winnie the Pooh.
