IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rebecca "Becky"
Salter Gupton
September 20, 1934 – June 5, 2025
Rocky Mount –
Rebecca "Becky" Lorraine Salter Gupton, age 90, passed from this earth on June 5, 2025. Born in Carteret County, NC on September 20, 1934, she was the daughter of Christopher Thomas Salter and Ada Salter, both of whom preceded her in death.
Rebecca was raised in Atlantic, North Carolina, surrounded by a loving extended family, where she graduated from Atlantic High School. She moved to Wilmington, North Carolina and graduated from the James Walker Memorial Hospital Nursing School and worked there until she accepted a job with the Atlantic Coast Line Hospital in Rocky Mount, North Carolina where she met the love of her life, William Richard "Billy" Gupton who predeceased her in 1988.
Rebecca took time from her nursing career to raise her children and when they were in elementary school, she felt called to support the physicians of Weeks, Carter, Doyle and Smith and later Dr. Robert Sheridan and Dr. Paul Kinnaird of Rocky Mount Pediatrics. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, Rebecca participated in bible study, Sunday School and Sunday worship. She was an avid bridge player, volunteer for many civic organizations and took great joy in remembering family and friends with birthday cards that communicated just the right message.
A woman of great faith, devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, Rebecca will be deeply missed and will be remembered by her love of family, friends and her Down East heritage. Rebecca is survived by her son, William Richard Gupton, Jr. (Karen) of Raleigh; daughter, Lorraine Salter "Lori" Gupton of Raleigh; granddaughters, Catherine Stuart Gupton and Allison Brooks Gupton; brother, Edward Roscoe Salter of Stella; sister, Ellen Faye Salter Chadwick of Gloucester; sisters-in-law, Gail P. Gupton of Rocky Mount and Pat Condon of Pinehurst; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family would like to sincerely thank Jerri White, Mary Della Richardson, Joan Miller and Joann Davis, who loved, cared for and supported Rebecca during the last stage of life on earth. Without them and their love for her, we would not have been able to fulfill her wish to remain in her home.
A celebration of Rebecca's life will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, 200 S Church St., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Bill Grisham officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in The Family Life Center of First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church St., Rocky Mount NC 27804 and most importantly, they ask that you connect with people that you love and that you cherish your time with them.
