Obituary

Tarboro -

Renee Cox Lawrence, age 57, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 11, 2022, at her home in Tarboro, North Carolina.

Renee Lawrence, affectionately known as Mommy, Grandma, NaNa or Ree was 1 of 9 children, born December 20, 1964, to the late Gilbert and Mattie Cox. Renee is survived by her 3 children. Daniel Cox, Davita Lawrence-Phillips and youngest son David Lawrence Jr., four brothers (David, Donald, Gilbert & Nathaniel), and four sisters (Myrtle, Ellena, Memrie & Mattie). Grandchildren David, Re'Niya, Shaun and Dakota.

Renee developed a deep love and passion for GOD, her family and became a pillar within her small community. Renee loved to cook, read, play scrabble with her family, complete jigsaw puzzles and simply sit around talking about anything and everything. She was a woman of many blessed talents, born, raised and educated in NJ. There she met the love of her life and soon to be husband (David Lawrence Sr). She then moved to Washington DC where they married, and she became a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker for 20 plus years.

Renee devoted every moment and every beat of her heart to her children, husband and children's children.

Renee studied Computer IT at Strayer University for several years. Even after falling ill with lupus, Renee pressed on and blessed on as she worked as a cashier for several years at a neighborhood store. There she served her community in any ways she could, she then went on to work in a Childcare Facility as a teacher's assistant all while enduring constant trips to the hospital and dialysis treatment centers.

After separation from her husband, Renee relocated to Tarboro, NC where she comfortably resided with a handful of her siblings. Neighbors expressed that despite Renee's fixed income there was not a holiday that they didn't receive nice hot meals, warm welcomes or perhaps a small gift because although she may not have had much money, she had an abundance of love. "You could never visit Renee and leave with an empty stomach, empty handed or empty hearted!".

Renee lived a life full of love, joy, peace, and happiness. As GOD saw fit to call her home, she transitioned on Sunday Dec 11, 2022. The list of family and friends that she touched with her angelic grace is so long that she will be remembered from NJ to DC to NC and beyond for generations to come.

"God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, Come with me".

A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 11:00AM at The Church of God, 2129 Lawrence Circle, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
