Rocky Mount -

Richard Lovett, Sr., aka  "PopPop", passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday afternoon, October 21, 2025 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was born in Middlesex County, New Jersey on February 11, 1940 to Aurelius and Jessie Mae Lovett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Barbara J. Lovett and Emma Mae Knight; son, Eric Lovett; daughter, Jennifer F. Lovett; and seven brothers and seven sisters.

He is survived by a loving family that incudes his devoted son, Richard Lovett, Jr. of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Richard E. Lovett, III of Seaboard, NC,  April Blackman (Cortez) of Albany, NY, and Anita Medley of Rahway, New Jersey; goddaughter, Keen Pompey; and great-grandchildren, Ayana Lovett-Blackman, Isaiah Blackman, Jaylen, Justin, and Jasaad Medley, and Jasim Jackson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family friends and other extended relatives.

The family will plan a private memorial at a later date.
