Robert "Bobby" Landis, age 69, known by his firehouse friends as "Bird" passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, July 15, 2026 surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
With early beginnings in Nash County, North Carolina, Bobby was born on November 12, 1956, to George W. and Ethel H. Landis. He grew up in Rocky Mount and graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High. His childhood dreams saw Bobby with a successful future career as a firefighter. That wish became reality when he answered the call to community service and joined Rocky Mount Fire Department, District Three and served diligently for over thirty-four years.
His faith led him to Harvest Baptist Church where he was dedicated in his service as a deacon and was known for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ every chance he could. He loved his church family, and they loved him back just the same.
A devoted family man, Bobby was dedicated to Sharon and especially cherished his relationship with Matt. He was always fun to be around, looking for opportunities to lighten the air and make everyone laugh. His smile, personality, and tremendous heart were so loved and will be deeply missed.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, George W. and Barbara Landis, and stepfather, J.D. Hines.
He leaves many years of wonderful memories for his wife of twenty-four years, Sharon B. Landis; son, Matthew Willis of Wilmington, mother, Ethel Hines of Rocky Mount; brother, Billy Landis and wife, Dee of Macclesfield; nieces, Alison Webb and husband, Freddie and Mary Katherine Self and husband, Trey; great niece and nephew, Isla and Lane Webb; along with many family friends, extended relatives, and his beagle fur babies, Blue and Reba that he loved so much.
A special note of appreciation is extended to our many friends, Harvest Church family, and the Gentiva Hospice staff for the wonderful care, loving support, and special attention shown to Bobby and our family when we needed it most. We are deeply grateful for all of you.
A service to remember and celebrate Bobby's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Harvest Baptist Church, 2325 Old Mill Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park where the family will greet friends immediately following the committal.
