Pinetops -

On Monday afternoon, October 28, 2024, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend finished her race here on earth and was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Sandra Letchworth Best started her journey on August 24, 1950 in Pitt County, North Carolina as a daughter born to Sampson and Ellen "Marie" Lewis Letchworth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, William "Bert" Best.

Sandra worked with Edgecombe County Courthouse and Edgecombe County Public Schools for most of her career. She loved engaging with people. Her upbeat and witty personality allowed her to speak easily with strangers and forge lifelong friendships.

Family was everything to Sandra. She took great joy in preparing large meals for her family. She was also known for her famous fudge. She loved going fishing, going out to eat, and spending time with family and friends.

Sandra was an encourager, supporter and praying friend. Her smile was warm and inviting and she was always ready with a hug and kind words. Her life was truly a precious gift for which we are deeply grateful.

Sandra leaves a lifetime of cherished memories for her devoted daughter, Tammy Brice Skinner (Donnie Jr.) of Pinetops; grandchildren, John Reddick Skinner, of Tarboro and Katie Elizabeth Holden (Jordan) of Tarboro; siblings Clifton Sam Letchworth (April) of Macclesfield, Ardean L. Lakes (Murrell) of McKee, KY, and Cynthia L. Wooten (Jimmy) of Pinetops; along with a host of friends and extended relatives; and special friend, Jimmy Lee "Buddy" Lewis.

Family and friends are invited for a special Celebration of Sandra's Life at 3:30 on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Pender's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3246 Howard Avenue Ext, Tarboro, NC 27886. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 pm and other times at Sandra's home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Service League of Greenville Hospice House, 920 Wellness Dr. Greenville, NC 27834, Pender's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, or Webbs Chapel Baptist Church, PO Box 336, Macclesfield, NC 27852.
